I've hit a brick wall!

alvah russel rutan

I have been stuck on Reverend Alvah Russel Rutan for quite some time.  He is my husband's 3rd great grandfather.  He born in New Jersey 7 Mar 1821 and he died 12 Mar 1877.  I loose him and his family in the 1870 census, then I have an 1876 map that shows where his farm is, and then a will dated 10 March 1877 (the will brings up many questions for another post).  I have no idea who his parents are.

Alvah is most notably known for his involvement in the Fishing Creek Confederacy he was arrested at least twice in 1864 before being sent to trial for draft resistance.

The image above is Alvah's Individual Information screen and you can see in his Events/Facts the two times he was arrested, his trial, when he was sent to prison, and when he was released from prison(where the green arrows are).  You can also see that I have an Event/Fact called note; I use the note Event/Fact to keep all of my information together where I can easily see it in Alvah's timeline.

If anyone knows anything about Alvah Rutan please let me know.

Stitching Update…Lots of pics

LHN Family Sampler (excuse my crooked house…not sure why it looks like that)American Flag Quilt Sampler by Rosewood Manor.  I love stitching on this; I did however run out of the Brethren Blue.  I decided to put this down for a little while and have picked up the family sampler again.A close up!HAED Natures Mourning.  I have not worked on this in a while.  I plan to stitch on LHN Family Sampler until Friday and then work on this next.Last but not least is a little freebie that I did before Christmas.

Family Sampler Update

I was hoping to get more done on this this past week but another trip to the ER on Wednesday night did not leave much time for stitching.  I was very dehydrated and my potassium was low and I found out that I have a UTI.  I was really surprised about the UTI because I did not have the normal symptoms.  The antibiotic has really been helping.  I was not feeling well and just laying on the couch but then I got dizzy and fell so Jason had to come home from work and take me to the ER.  Yesterday was the first that I really spent any time stitching but I did get a lot done.
I switched to my HAED Nature’s Mourning for this week.  So far today I have gotten a lot done.  Hopefully this week I will stay healthy and want to cross stitch.
Enjoy your week!
Happy Stitching!!

How I Use Evernote for My Genealogy.

NOTE: 2 Feb 2014 -- Link updated to shared notebook

Today I did a Google+ hangout on air about Evernote for Genealogy.   Once I watched the video I saw that I was not a very good cameraman!

Hopefully this will clear up any questions you may have.

How I use Evernote for my genealogy.

I use Evernote to store everything including my genealogy research.
You want to use Evernote in a way that makes sense to you.  Tags, notebooks, no tags or no notebooks; do whatever works the best for you.
Notebooks (the blue box)
Notebooks are sorted alphabetically so if there are notebooks you want at the top of your list you can use ! or @ or ~ in front of your notebook title.  In my image, for example, I have my INBOX notebook with an ! in front to keep this notebook at the top of the list.  I use a ~ to keep my GENEALOGY notebook stacks together.  I have an ARCHIVE notebook and in front of that I put an x to keep it at the bottom of …
